The indefinite ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel will begin to operate on November 27. US President Joe Biden said on November 26.

"<...> The agreement comes into force tomorrow at four o'clock in the morning local time. Fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border must cease. <...> Over the next 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw its remaining troops and civilians will be able to return to their homes," Biden said in his address.

At the same time, the American leader noted that if the Shiite movement Hezbollah violates the terms of the truce, Israel reserves the right to self-defense.

According to Biden, the U.S. together with partners will make every effort to ensure that the terms of the deal were observed by both sides, as well as contribute to the creation of peace in the Middle East.

Earlier, on November 25, it was reported that Israel's prime minister tentatively approved a possible agreement that seeks a ceasefire between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

Prior to that, on November 24, it was reported that IDF strikes in Lebanon had killed 84 people and injured more than 200.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the IDF claimed 30 rockets fired from Lebanon into Israel.

In early November, Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati called the resumption of attacks a rejection of Israel's peace initiative. He emphasized that Israel's repeated threats "confirm the disregard for all efforts made to secure a ceasefire."

The escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah came after the events of September 17 and 18, when thousands of people, including employees of the movement, were injured when pagers and other communication devices exploded in Lebanon. The country blamed Tel Aviv for what happened. Since then, Israel has continued to eliminate the leadership of the Shiite movement and strike Lebanese territory.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
