The ceasefire agreement with Lebanon is a "historic mistake" that does not meet the key objective of the war. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said on Nov. 26.

"This is not a ceasefire. This is a return to the concept of silence for silence, and we have already seen where it leads. This agreement does not fulfill the goal of the war - to bring the people of the north home safely," he wrote on the X network (formerly Twitter).

According to Ben-Gvir, by concluding this agreement, Israel is walking on thin ice, as the Lebanese army does not have the authority and ability to defeat the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.

Israel's national security minister is convinced that the state should trust no one but itself.

"Otherwise rockets will be launched at Manara, Avivim, Kiryat Shmona, the entire north and the entire state of Israel, and finally we will have to return to Lebanon again," he concluded.

On this day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would submit a draft plan for a ceasefire in Lebanon to the government for approval. The ceasefire agreement will take effect on November 27 at 10:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time), after the Lebanese government also approves it.

Earlier, on November 25, it was reported that Israel's prime minister tentatively approved a possible agreement that seeks a ceasefire between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah movement.

Prior to that, on November 24, it was reported that 84 people were killed and more than 200 injured in Lebanon as a result of IDF strikes.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the IDF claimed 30 rockets fired from Lebanon into Israel.

In early November, Lebanon's acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati called the resumption of attacks a rejection of Israel's peace initiative. He emphasized that Israel's repeated threats "confirm the disregard for all efforts made to secure a ceasefire."

The escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah came after the events of September 17 and 18, when thousands of people, including employees of the movement, were injured when pagers and other communication devices exploded in Lebanon. The country blamed Tel Aviv for what happened. Since then, Israel has continued to eliminate the leadership of the Shiite movement and strike Lebanese territory.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
