Rostec commented on incidents with Superjet airplanes

All known serious air accidents with Superjet are related to either human or unfavorable external factors, Rostec's press service told Izvestia on November 26.
Earlier, on November 24, it was reported that an Azimut Airlines plane caught fire while landing at Antalya airport. The aircraft was extinguished, passengers evacuated by inflatable gangways.
"There is no need to demonize the Superjet. If a conventional Mercedes gets into an accident, it does not immediately mean that the car is bad. All known serious air accidents with Superjet are related to either human or unfavorable external factors. The official reasons for the airplane incident with Superjet in Antalya will be announced by a special commission, which has already been formed. For our part, we, as manufacturers of the aircraft, are ready to provide all necessary assistance in the investigation," Rostec emphasized.
It specified that, according to the latest data, there were unfavorable meteorological conditions at the airport of Antalya, the plane got into the wind shear and made a hard landing. The state corporation explained that wind shear is considered by aviators not just a dangerous phenomenon, but a circumstance in which landing is often not recommended. The airplane hit the runway with a swing. The Superjet's systems worked properly, including the landing gear struts, the state corporation added.
"The left engine appears to have received a serious blow. Part of the fuel leaked out of the damaged unit and caught fire on the runway," the state corporation said.
At the same time, they emphasized that in operation, the reliability indicators of the Superjet are the same as those of foreign-made aircraft of the same class. Rostec cited statistics, according to which the regularity of departures of this type of aircraft is 98% in 2024.
On November 25, the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that a criminal case has been opened over the fact of the fire of a Sukhoi Superjet of Azimut Airlines at the airport of Turkish Antalya. The Interstate Aviation Committee also noted that Turkey will investigate the incident. At the same time, the carrier's press service said it would make a preliminary payment to passengers to compensate for losses in the amount of 100,000 rubles.
TASS, citing a source in the insurance market, reported that the damage from the fire of the SSJ-100 aircraft of Azimut Airlines in Antal could reach 2-3 billion rubles.
