Liu Lianghe, former secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of the board of one of the world's major banks Bank of China, was sentenced to death for bribery and illegal lending. This was reported by Reuters on November 26, citing Chinese media.

"The court said that since Liu had 'honestly confessed' to the crime and most of the stolen money and property in the case had been recovered, the death sentence would not be immediately carried out," the piece said.

Liu was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve. This means the sentence will be carried out if he commits a further crime within the specified period. After the two-year period expires, the sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment. The court also ordered to deprive Liu Lianghe of his political rights for life and confiscate all illegally obtained assets in favor of the state.

According to Reuters, the court claimed Liu took advantage of Liu's position to promote many people. It is specified that the total amount of bribes amounted to 121 million yuan ($17 million).

Earlier, on November 22, the state of Alabama carried out the third in the history of the United States death penalty by nitrogen, despite criticism of this method. It is specified that 50-year-old Cary Dale Grayson, who with three accomplices kidnapped and killed a girl traveling to Louisiana, was sentenced to death. Before the execution, the man said that for 30 years he regretted what he had done.
