The German authorities are ready to transfer two more Iris-T air defense systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock on November 26 at a meeting of foreign ministers of the G7 countries in the city of Fiuggi near Rome.

"Two more Iris-T systems will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year," Berbock told reporters.

The minister pointed out that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Germany has allocated €37 billion to help Kiev and further also intends to support the AFU for the sake of Germany's "own defense." The transfer of new weapons confirms and the head of the Special Staff for Ukraine in the German Defense Ministry Christian Freuding.

"The next Iris-T SLM (medium-range) and SLS (short-range) systems should arrive in Ukraine in the coming days and weeks, before Christmas," United24Media quoted him as saying.

Earlier, on November 25, the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal noted that Ukraine's European allies could not produce enough weapons for aid deliveries, so they were helping Kiev financially to produce them themselves. The paper noted that the new supply scheme allows Kiev to receive weapons faster and in large quantities, as Europe concludes contracts directly with Ukrainian production facilities. This scheme has already been supported by Norway, Sweden, Lithuania, Denmark and Germany.

Before this, on 24 November, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius pointed to Russia's superiority over the EU in the production of shells. According to him, the Russian defense industrial complex (DIC) produces as many shells in three months as all European Union (EU) countries do in a year. The minister also pointed to the increasing scale of the Ukrainian conflict. He noted that the conflict continues to expand and has already lost its regional status. Pistorius also pointed to Russia's military buildup.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, the launch of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
