Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed bewilderment at a briefing on November 26 over Germany's reluctance to use the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

"One can only be perplexed why, for example, the leadership of the same Germany is not guided by purely economic interests and the interests of economic expediency," he said.

According to Peskov, the FRG prefers to provide energy resources at a high price from other sources, although the use of Nord Stream - 2 would be economically feasible for the country's industry, for its producers and including citizens.

At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman noted that the pipeline does not need to be rebuilt and can be started using it instantly.

Der Spiegel magazine reported on November 21 that the JV gas pipeline was blown up by a group of Ukrainians and some of them had previous ties to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The cost of the bombing operation amounted to up to $300,000.

Prior to that, on September 25, the German government confirmed that several arrest warrants had been issued during the investigation into the JV bombings. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on September 8 that the country would make every effort to investigate and called for an unbiased investigation. The Kremlin agreed with the call, but Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed to the importance of information sharing instead of leaks.

Leaks at Nord Streams in the Baltic Sea were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were registered on the pipelines. Traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the CIA was responsible for the explosions.
