In France, farmers on tractors protested outside the European Parliament

About 25 French farmers on tractors protested outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg against the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). French television channel BFM TV reported on November 26.
"At least 25 tractors arrived at the European Parliament building in Strasbourg to denounce the free trade agreement with Mercosur at the call of the rural coordination council," the publication said.
Farmer and member of the rural coordination Pierre-Yves Batelemy called Mercosur "the straw that breaks the camel's back." According to him, EU deputies do not take into account the fact that farmers cannot be forced to import products that they are not allowed to produce.
The piece notes that the tractor drivers are signaling in protest.
Mercosur is an economic and political agreement on the common market of South American countries. The community was founded in 1991, and today it includes Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Earlier on November 17, farmers near Paris began a protest by blocking part of a highway leading to the French capital with tractors in protest against the free trade agreement between the EU and the South American Common Market.
In July this year, nine people were injured and seven detained at farmer protests in western France. It is noted that there were clashes between police and demonstrators. Law enforcement officers had to use tear gas.
