A Primorye resident was sentenced for smuggling 167 million rubles worth of timber

The court in Primorsky Krai sentenced a resident of Artem to a suspended sentence for smuggling a specially protected species of oak for the amount exceeding 167 million rubles. This is reported by the Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District.

It is established that the head of the company declared more than 12.8 thousand cubic meters of timber of especially protected species of Mongolian oak for export to China, providing false documents on legal logging.

"The total amount of timber falsely declared and moved abroad exceeded 167 million rubles," the agency said.

According to PrimaMedia IA, Artemovsky City Court found the local resident guilty of three episodes of smuggling of strategically important resources on a large scale (part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and one similar crime committed as part of an organized group (part 3. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Taking into account his assistance to the investigation, he was sentenced to four years and eight months of suspended imprisonment with a four-year probation period and a fine of 200 thousand rubles. He also has no right to engage in foreign trade activities in the sphere of timber turnover for one year and 10 months.

In addition, a residential house, three plots of land, two cars and a trailer with a total value of Br6.8 million were confiscated from the convict as compensation for the damage caused. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
