The driver who hit five pedestrians in Chelyabinsk was arrested for 15 days

The driver, who hit five pedestrians in Chelyabinsk and left the scene of the accident, was arrested for 15 days. This was reported on November 26 by the correspondent of "Izvestia".

"To recognize <...> guilty of committing an administrative offense <...> and to assign him punishment in the form of administrative arrest for a period of 15 days", - the judge announced the decision.

According to the man, he did not immediately realize that he hit people, otherwise he would have stopped. It seemed to the driver that he hit the fence of the safety island with his mirror on the turn.

The driver hit five pedestrians on the sidewalk at the intersection of Kashirinykh Brothers and Chicherina streets in Chelyabinsk on November 25. The footage from the video surveillance camera shows how a black car flew at high speed on the sidewalk and hit people who were standing near the crosswalk. The perpetrator of the accident immediately left the scene.

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler said that all five victims were hospitalized. Among them there is a child who is 11 months old. One of the adults is in serious condition. In addition, among those injured are the goalkeeper of the hockey club "Chelmet" Alexei Shchetilin and his wife.

A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under paragraphs "a", "b" of part 2 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of road traffic and operation of vehicles"). As the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk specified, the caught driver was drunk and had already been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for violation of traffic rules.
