"Avtodor warned of tougher penalties for hidden license plates

In the Vladimir region, about a hundred drivers have been prosecuted for hidden license plates on the M-12 "Vostok" highway since the beginning of this year. The traffic police together with the state company conduct raids, during which 96 protocols were drawn up, the press service of Avtodor reported in its Telegram channel on November 26.
72 times drivers removed or covered license plates, in 11 cases the registration number was unreadable. In addition, such activities 13 times helped to detect other violations, when drivers were not buckled up or riding a bicycle on the expressway.
During the raid, a car without a license plate is recorded by an operator in the road control center and transmits the information to traffic police officers who stand in the way of the violator.
The state company reminded that in mid-October, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on toughening punishment for hidden license plates. Previously, in case of concealment or deliberate modification of the number the driver faced a fine of 5 thousand rubles or deprivation of driving license for a period of one to three months, but now in case of repeated violation of the terms of deprivation is from one year to one and a half years, and the option to get a fine is excluded.
Later, the head of Avtodor, Vyacheslav Petushenko, said that in the first nine months of 2024, about 8% of cars with hidden license plates or without them at all were detected on the roads with the "Free Flow" system (M-12 and the Central Ring Road). In October-November this figure decreased to 5%.
On October 17, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia told Izvestia that the issue of holding a driver liable for mud and snow on the license plates of a car will be considered by traffic police depending on weather and road conditions.
