Court in Kursk remanded a British mercenary of the AFU in custody


The Leninsky district court of Kursk has remanded in custody a mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from the UK, James Scott Reece Anderson. This was reported on November 26 by the joint press service of the judicial system of the Kursk region in Telegram.
"The decision of the Leninsky district court of Kursk from 25.11.2024 in respect of James Scott Reece Anderson <...> suspected of committing a set of particularly serious crimes, representing a special public danger, elected a measure of restraint in the form of detention," - noted in the message.
It is specified that as part of the AFU he illegally crossed the border of Kursk region and participated in hostilities against Russia. The joint press service of the judicial system of the region added that the ruling can be appealed.
On November 24, it became known that a mercenary from the UK was captured by the Russian military in the Kursk direction. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the next day that the authorities would do everything possible to support him.
Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
