The court in Novosibirsk sentenced the defendants in the case of a gas explosion in a residential building, which killed people. This was reported by the regional prosecutor's office on Tuesday, November 26. They were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

"Zaeltzovsky district court of Novosibirsk passed a sentence in a criminal case against Evgeny Kavun and Irina Urbakh. They were found guilty under part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation", - stated in the message of the department in Telegram-channel.

Kavun was sentenced to 10 years and three months of imprisonment, and Urbakh - to 10 years in a penal colony of strict regime.

It was established that on February 6, 2023 Urbakh, not being an employee of Mezhregiongaz service, introduced herself as a controller of this organization, presenting a false ID. She convinced the landlady of the apartment to replace the flexible supply line of the gas equipment. After receiving consent, Urbach called Kavun, who, posing as a fitter, replaced the supply line, omitting to check the tightness of the connections.

Three days later, on February 9, there was a gas leak in the apartment, which caused an explosion. There was a fire and the load-bearing structure of the building was destroyed. Fifteen people died and 11 were injured. Material damage amounted to more than 360 million rubles.

The gas explosion in a panel house on Lineynaya Street in Novosibirsk became known on February 9, 2023. Cotton collapsed two entrances of the building, followed by a fire on an area of 300 square meters. m.

Regional Governor Andrei Travnikov declared February 10 a day of mourning for the victims of the explosion. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the incident was a tragedy, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wished recovery to the injured.
