Media pointed to the West's split over ICC indictments of Netanyahu and Galantu

The issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former head of the country's Defense Ministry Yoav Galant may lead to a split in the Western world. The Financial times reported on November 25.
"The indictment of Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant for war crimes is a disaster for Israel. It is also a huge problem for the Western alliance," the publication said.
It is noted that Israel receives support in the US from both major parties, while other European Union (EU) governments have recognized their willingness to arrest Tel Aviv's prime minister when he crosses their territories. Among the countries that have expressed their acceptance of arrest warrants for Israeli officials are Britain, Canada and Australia, the publication reports.
It is specified that confrontation on the grounds of the ICC and Israel is "the last thing the Western alliance needs", but it will face it anyway. The newspaper predicts that the actions of US President-elect Donald Trump will be aimed at "destroying the court" by imposing sanctions against the ICC staff and the countries that maintain it.
Earlier, on November 25, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said it was necessary for the G7 countries to take a unified position on the ICC decision.
TheICC issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former head of the country's Defense Ministry Yoav Galant on November 21. The decision was made because, according to the institution, they are criminally responsible as civilian chiefs "for the war crime of deliberately attacking a civilian population."
On the same day, the head of the EU diplomatic service Josep Borrell said at a press conference in Jordan that the EU considers the issued warrants "binding."
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the ICC's decision to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Ministry head Yoav Galant would not help end the conflict in the Middle East.
