Tourists from 12 countries were on board the yacht, which sank near the Egyptian city of Marsa El Alam. This was reported by Reuters on November 25.

"16 people, including 12 foreign nationals, are missing. <...> Among the foreign citizens <...> were Americans, Belgians, Britons, Chinese, Finns, Germans, Irish, Poles, Slovaks, Spaniards and Swiss," - stated in the material.

According to the agency, there were 44 people on board, including 31 tourists and 13 crew members.

The agency also noted that it was possible to save 28 people. It is specified that they received minor injuries in the form of abrasions and bruises, none of them required hospitalization. A government source told Reuters that the search for the missing had been suspended overnight.

Major General Amr Hanafi, governor of the Red Sea province, said that, tentatively, a large wave suddenly hit the vessel and capsized the yacht in five to seven minutes. Some passengers were in their cabins and could not be saved, he said.

The yacht sank earlier in the day. The Russian Consulate General in Hurghada said there were no Russians among the passengers.

Later, the BBC, citing Egyptian authorities, reported that 17 people were missing as a result of the sinking of the yacht. At that time Hanafi specified that the Egyptian Navy and military aviation have intensified measures to search for the missing.
