The UK authorities will do "everything possible" to support British mercenary James Scott Rees Anderson, who was captured in Kursk region, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy told reporters on November 25.

"We will do everything we can to give this British citizen all the support we can," The Independent newspaper quoted him as saying.

Lammy specified that he has been receiving information about the development of this situation for the last two days.

In turn, the office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the Foreign Ministry of the country provides support to the family of the mercenary, noted "Gazeta.Ru".

The fact that a mercenary from Britain was captured by the Russian military in the Kursk direction, became known the day before, November 24.

On the video he said that he had previously served as a communications officer in the British army, underwent military training, joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and at some point was forcibly sent to the Kursk region. As the British newspaper Metro noted, Anderson introduced himself as Jimmy Ray in the video for an unknown reason.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
