Zakharova said Germany attempts to rewrite history in favor of the Third Reich

Germany's refusal to recognize the genocide of Soviet peoples during the Great Patriotic War, including the siege of Leningrad, Russia considers as an attempt to rewrite history in favor of the Third Reich. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on November 25.

"We consider this official position of Berlin now as an attempt, among other things, to rewrite history in favor of the Third Reich," she said in her video message to the participants of the expert session of the international scientific and practical forum "Without Statute of Limitations. Key Point of Historical Memory" in St. Petersburg, which was broadcast on the page in the social network "VKontakte".

The diplomat called this approach of the FRG authorities not only absurd in logic and argumentation, but also insulting to the descendants of the victims of Nazism on the territory of the former USSR, as well as unacceptable for all civilized humanity.

According to Zakharova, Moscow considers the FRG's position in this area not accidental, but stemming from the uneven denazification on the territory of the two parts of post-war Germany.

At the same time, the work on the international recognition of Nazi crimes on the territory of the USSR as acts of genocide is one of the priorities of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman reminded.

Before that, on November 11, a committee of the UN General Assembly adopted a Russian resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism. It was co-sponsored by dozens of states, including Armenia, Belarus, China, Mali, DPRK, Serbia, South Africa. The document calls for preventing the distortion of historical truth and rejecting all forms of racial discrimination.
