Oksana Pivovarova, a professor at the Department of Internal Medicine of the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, a therapist, told Izvestia on November 26 about the causes of hyperhidrosis, its potential dangers and methods of treatment.

"Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating. It can be primary, that is, related to the physiological state of the body - an increased number of sweat glands in a person on specific areas of the body," Pivovarova explained.

According to her, there is primary hyperhidrosis, which is due to physiological features of the body. It usually manifests itself locally: sweat is secreted in certain areas, which leads to discomfort both on a personal and social level, as well as to the excessive development of microflora on moist skin.

"Typically, diffuse hyperhidrosis is indicative of pathology of endocrine organs and other systems, such as thyroid hyperfunction. Diffuse hyperhidrosis is dangerous primarily not in itself, but in connection with the endocrine disease it signals," the expert said.

Pivovarova specified that localized hyperhidrosis is amenable to conservative treatment, which is usually carried out by cosmetologists.

"It is usually recommended to use antiperspirants containing alumochlorohydride, which successfully fights sweating. <...> Also focal injection of drugs, such as botulinum toxin intradermally - it is injected into the axillae, on the surface of the feet and palms," - summarized the specialist.

In August, endocrinologist Elena Zyablova told "Izvestia" about the main ways to combat excessive sweating. She advised that in case of hyperhidrosis to consult a therapist, who will give a referral to the necessary specialized doctors.
