From the beginning of next year, Russians who apply for Czech citizenship will first have to renounce their Russian citizenship. This was reported by Novinky.cz on November 25.

"People who apply for Czech citizenship and have Russian citizenship will have to choose. One or the other," the publication quotes the words of the signatory of the bill MP Martin Exner.

People who already hold Russian and Czech citizenship will not need to give up their Russian passports, Gazeta.Ru adds.

The change has already been approved by the parliamentary security committee. Parliament will vote on December 3. If the bill is approved by Parliament and the President, it will come into force from January next year.

Earlier, on November 2, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia that those 66 citizens of the Czech Republic, who were allowed by President Petr Pavel to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), were apparently no longer needed by the country.

Before that, in July, Zakharova called the Czech Republic's refusal to recognize Russian passports without a biometric chip an unfriendly move. She noted that this decision is aimed at worsening relations between the two countries.

Earlier in the month, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said that the Czech Republic would no longer allow entry to Russians who do not have biometric passports.
