The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the help of Chelyabinsk residents in detaining the driver who hit pedestrians

In Chelyabinsk, concerned citizens helped the police to catch the driver who hit five people on the sidewalk. This was reported on November 25 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

"Within minutes the location of the driver was established. The police were helped by concerned citizens who blocked the car of the offender," - wrote Volk in her Telegram-channel.

It turned out that the driver is drunk and has already been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for violation of traffic rules.

The driver hit five pedestrians on the sidewalk at the intersection of Kashirinykh Brothers and Chicherina streets in Chelyabinsk earlier in the day. The CCTV footage shows how a black car flew at high speed onto the sidewalk and hit people who were standing near the crosswalk waiting for a green traffic signal. The perpetrator of the accident did not try to slow down and immediately left the scene.

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler said that all five victims were hospitalized. Among them there is a child who is 11 months old. One of the adults is in serious condition. In addition, among those injured - the goalkeeper of the hockey club "Chelmet" Alexei Shchetilin and his wife, their condition is assessed as medium severity.

A criminal case has been opened on the fact of the accident on the grounds of a crime under paragraphs "a", "b" of part 2 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of road traffic and operation of vehicles").

Semyon Bykov, an eyewitness to the accident, told Izvestia that this intersection is very wide and the most dangerous in the city, with motorists passing it at high speed. The man noted that the resuscitation team at the time of the accident was not far from the scene, so the victims were lucky.
