A man accused of organizing the activities of the Falun Gong sect was arrested in Tomsk

A man was arrested in Tomsk on charges of organizing the activities of a foreign non-governmental organization. This is reported on November 25 in the Telegram-channel of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Tomsk region.

According to preliminary data, the man illegally organized in Tomsk the activities of the "World Falun Gong Organization" (the organization is banned in Russia and recognized as extremist).

In order to propagandize the ideas of the movement, he rented non-residential premises where he held meetings of accomplices. In addition, the accused collected money from the participants of the meetings to prepare informational materials to promote the organization.

A criminal case was opened under part 3 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of activities of a foreign or international organization, in respect of which a decision has been taken to recognize its activities as undesirable in the territory of the Russian Federation in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation").

The man's place of residence was searched.

"Falun Gong" is an occult organization founded in China in 1992 by retired military officer Li Hongzhi. The media reports that the cell had a totalitarian character. In 1999, the sect was banned in China because of cases of insanity and suicides of its members and their belief in "miraculous healing."

Earlier, on September 3, investigators searched members of the Mordovian cell of the Falun Gong sect. Among others, law enforcers searched I. Maksinyaev, who organized the work of the cell in the region. He is a defendant in a criminal case initiated under part 3 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of activities of an undesirable NGO").
