A criminal case has been opened on the fact of a car collision in Chelyabinsk with five people on the sidewalk. This was reported on November 25 by the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (ICS) of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region.

"A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under paragraphs "a", "b" of part 2 of article 264 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of road traffic and operation of vehicles")", - stated in the message of the Department in its Telegram-channel.

It added that the perpetrator of the accident drove a BMW X6 car and was drunk. The investigator of the regional IC requested materials from the State Traffic Inspectorate. Specialists examine the scene of the accident, appointed a number of examinations, which are necessary to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.

The driver hit five pedestrians on the sidewalk at the intersection of Kashirinykh Brothers and Chicherina streets in Chelyabinsk earlier in the day. Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk said the motorist had been detained. The footage from the scene, taken by a surveillance camera, shows that a black car flew out onto the sidewalk at high speed and hit a group of people waiting for a green traffic signal at the crosswalk. The perpetrator of the accident did not try to slow down and immediately fled.

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler said that all five victims of the accident were hospitalized. Among them there is a child who is 11 months old. One of the adults is in serious condition. In addition, among those injured are the goalkeeper of the hockey club "Chelmet" Alexei Shchetilin and his wife, their condition is assessed as medium severity.
