Murashko reported a 40% decrease in HIV cases in Russia

Since 2016, the incidence of HIV infection in Russia has decreased by 40%, reaching a historic low. This statement was made on November 25 by Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko in his greeting to the participants of the X All-Russian Forum for specialists in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

"Since 2016 <...> the incidence of HIV infection in Russia has decreased by almost 40% and today is at a historical minimum," follows from the department's Telegram channel.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Health stressed that today much attention is paid to the organization of prevention, diagnosis and therapy of this disease. According to him, the epidemic process of HIV infection is stably controlled in Russia.

Murashko noted that in 2023, 35% of the total population of the Russian Federation were tested and new cases of the disease amounted to about 55 thousand people. This is 1.5% lower than in 2022.

Earlier, on August 5, Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladimir Neronov, an infectious disease doctor at JSC "Medicine" (Clinic of Academician Roitberg), told Izvestia that the results of trials of the drug for the prevention of HIV infection "Lenacapavir" are amazing and give hope for the future. The drug has shown 100% effectiveness in pre-exposure prophylaxis and in the treatment of drug-resistant forms of HIV 1. The specialist noted that the fact of the drug's appearance is a breakthrough in the fight against the disease.
