Ex-Defense Ministry department head Kurakin sentenced to 17 years in prison

Former head of the Department of Property Relations of the Russian Defense Ministry Dmitry Kurakin was sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony and fined 369 million rubles in a case of abuse of power, large-scale bribery and fraud. This was reported on Monday, November 25, by a correspondent of "Izvestia" from the hall of the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow.

Another defendant in the case, ex-head of the Federal State Agency "Oboronles" Vladislav Kholodkov, was sentenced to 14 years in prison, fined 369 million rubles, as well as deprived of the right to hold senior positions for 11 years.

Maxim Ahn, ex-director of the Malta Military Forestry JSC, was sentenced to 14 years in a penal colony.

Kurakin was detained on November 19, 2020. According to the version of the investigation, he together with An and Kholodov under the guise of sanitary felling cut down elite forest on the territory of military units in the Eastern Military District. Kurakin partially pleaded guilty. He was accused of bribery and abuse of power.
