Appearance plays a key role in the first meeting. More than 80% of Russian women refuse a second date because of their partner's unkempt appearance. About what factors are really important in dating and how to avoid common mistakes, told "Izvestia" November 26 PR-director of the deiting service Mamba Natalia Krasilnikova.

According to the expert, the role of appearance on a first date is difficult to overestimate. According to the service's research, 90% of men and women consider it an extremely important aspect.

"The first impression is created visually. People automatically assess the groomed skin, cleanliness of hair, neatness of clothes and general style of a person literally in the first minutes of the meeting," - said Krasilnikova.

At the same time there are noticeable gender differences in the perception of appearance, said the expert. Men, as a rule, evaluate a woman as a whole - how much she suits her clothes, whether it is appropriate on the first date, whether it emphasizes the figure. For them it is important that the companion was dressed neatly, beautifully, but at the same time restrained. Accessories, jewelry and brands are not particularly concerned with them. And excessively bright and provocative style will not appreciate more than a third (38%) of male respondents.

"Women, in turn, are more attentive to details. They notice brands, color combinations, accessories, phone model and partner's hairstyle. Unkempt appearance is the main red flag for 83% of Russian women. Incorrect posture and strange facial expressions repel 41% of women, and unfortunate hairstyle - 20%", - said Krasilnikova.

According to the study, the main irritating factors for Russians are white socks under black shoes on men (54%) and leopard print on women (26%). Among other things, women are repulsed by cheap shoes (36%) and fakes of famous brands (25%), while men are repulsed by stockings in mesh (17%), also fakes (13%) and too deep cleavage or minis (12%).

Speaking about common stereotypes, the expert pointed out that "you should not look as bright as possible, showing cleavage or long legs in a mini". Excessively frank clothes and vamp-style makeup are not the best choice for a first date. Such a look can either repel a man or give the idea that a woman is looking for something frivolous.

Another popular myth is the need to follow the latest trends and wear expensive brands, Krasilnikova said. According to her, research has shown that excessive demonstration of success can make the interlocutor feel uncomfortable. It is better to just choose comfortable clothes in which you feel confident.

"There is also a stereotype that tattoos and piercings are more likely to repel a partner. But according to Mamba's research, only 23% of men are still prejudiced against tattoos on women's bodies, and that's mostly people aged 45 and over. The attitude to piercing is even more positive - 90% of men and 56% of women consider it absolutely normal", - emphasized the expert.

As added Krasilnikova, it is worth considering that appearance plays a role not only on a date, but also online. Profile photo is the very "first look", and this look is very cursory. Literally in a fraction of a second a person makes a decision whether to put a like or not. Therefore, it is very important that the photo was high-quality, positive and emphasized individuality. It is not necessary to organize a professional photo shoot. The main thing is good lighting and naturalness.

"Remember that there is no such thing as perfect looks. People are attracted not only by physical data, but also by mentality, character, personal qualities. Your hobbies, sense of humor and kindness can be much more attractive than any most athletic figure. Therefore, on the first date you should just relax, show sincere interest in the interlocutor and enjoy communication. These vibes will be transferred to your new acquaintance, and the meeting will pass easily and naturally," - concluded the expert.

In October, deiting-service Mamba presented "Izvestia" the results of the study, according to which 60% of men believe that a gift on the first date - it is a premature step. At the same time, young men themselves do not mind getting it from a girl on the first meeting - so said 46% of respondents. Another 40% of Russian men still give gifts on the first date. In addition, 16% do it for good reasons, and another 24% - only if the girl has made a very strong impression.
