It is not yet worth making a forecast on how the possible victory of independent candidate Calin Georgescu in the Romanian presidential election may affect relations between Bucharest and Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on November 25. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on November 25.

"I wouldn't make any predictions yet, and probably we can't say that we are so familiar with the worldview of this candidate as far as relations with our country are concerned," Peskov said.

He noted that the position of the current leadership of Romania is just well understood, now this state is not friendly to Russia. Peskov added that the Kremlin will follow further developments in the Romanian presidential election.

Earlier, on November 25, the Libertatea newspaper reported that after processing 98.7% of ballots, Georgescu gained 22.65% of the vote, the incumbent Romanian Prime Minister, head of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu - 19.46%, and a supporter of anti-Russian policy, leader of the "Union for the Salvation of Romania" Elena Lasconi - 18.93%. A total of 14 candidates are running in the elections.

Before that, on October 6, the Supreme Court of Romania excluded far-right politician Diana Shoshoake from the list of candidates for the presidential election without explaining the reasons. Politicians from different circles called this court decision an unprecedented threat to legal values.
