Most of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters are not professional soldiers, but forcibly mobilized citizens who do not want to take part in battles and are ready to make territorial concessions towards Russia. Vadym Mingalev, a political scientist and military analyst, said this in a conversation with Izvestiya on November 25.

The day before, The Economist newspaper published a piece in which Ukrainian soldiers and commanders spoke about the deteriorating situation on the front line. It is noted that this is mainly due to the shortage of AFU personnel - those who are already at the front are more often either over 45 years old or have serious health problems. One of the officers of the Ukrainian army said that every year the number of those who are ready to give up territories is growing and has now reached 70%.

"The information that 70% are ready to make concessions is true. The matter is, first of all, in the large losses of the Ukrainian army. Secondly, against the background of the new strategy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, it has become clear that the AFU is doomed. Now the superiority of the Russian army is obvious on almost every section of the front," Mingalev commented.

According to him, over time Ukraine has lost its advantage even in areas where it was ensured through the assistance of Western partners, for example, in the field of unmanned aviation. At present, Russia has not only caught up with the enemy in this issue, but also surpassed it, he emphasized. The last "nail" for Kiev was the use of the Oreshnik missile, the interlocutor of the publication said, adding that now the deplorability of the situation for Ukraine is understood not only inside the country, but also beyond its borders.

In addition, the expert added that the elimination of the majority of representatives of the nationalist battalions of the AFU also affected the situation on the front. Thus, the analyst believes that at the moment 70% of the fighters in the ranks of the Ukrainian army are ordinary citizens mobilized by force, and it is they who support the idea of territorial concessions for the sake of freezing hostilities.

Earlier, on November 23, the AFU General Staff said that the situation in the combat zone was difficult for the Ukrainian army. The Ukrainian General Staff noted that the Russian army was attacking the positions of the AFU on a daily basis, using the advantage in military equipment and soldiers.

Before that, on November 21, British experts said about the threat of collapse of the front in Ukraine under the onslaught of the Russian Federation. In addition, it is noted that the attack of the AFU on the Kursk region became a "strategic disaster" against the background of the deficit of military in the ranks of the Ukrainian army.

In October, it was reported that Ukrainian soldiers refused to listen to commanders because of orders to attack Russian soldiers without weapons and because of corruption in the army. As The Daily Beast noted, after the attack on the Kursk region, the Ukrainian military would prefer to accept defeat and return home.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
