Titan force: new sniper rifle for special forces developed

The Titan semi-automatic rifle in .308 caliber has been developed for Russian special purpose units. It is lighter than its analogs and has high accuracy. Depending on the tasks, the rifle can be used as a sniper or assault weapon. Experts note that the new rifle turned out to be universal with good characteristics, so the weapon will really be in demand by fighters of reconnaissance or special purpose units.
Characteristics of the rifle "Titan"
The "Titan" rifle (TITAN) is a semi-automatic .308 caliber rifle made of domestic components. According to the developers, it is similar to the German Heckler & Koch 417 rifle, but has several advantages.
First, the Titan is lighter - its weight is 3.6 kg versus 4.5 kg. In addition, it is equipped with a six-position gas regulator. With it, you can customize the recoil rate of moving parts of the weapon, and this allows you to use ammunition from any manufacturer with any silencer.
Depending on the tasks, the rifle can be used as a sniper weapon, or as an assault weapon - it depends on what it is equipped with.
Volunteers are already buying this rifle for Russian troops on the front lines.
- In their feedback, the military noted the reliability of the design, accuracy, and accuracy," a representative of the SWC manufacturing company told Izvestia. - The accuracy is 0.3 angular minutes. This means that at a distance of 100 meters there will be a hit in a circle with a diameter of less than a centimeter. The .308 caliber cartridge is powerful, reliable, in Russia it is produced in various versions, even in armor-piercing. Therefore, the rifle is popular among Russian military.
The maximum distance at which the weapon can operate is one kilometer. At tests from this distance, shooters made 20 hits in a row into a square 40x40 centimeters, the developers said.
- The reliability of the weapon was tested in tests. Exploded ammunition inside the box to simulate an accidental shot. There is no damage to the barrel, receiver and bolt group, - said the representative of the manufacturer.
Will increase survivability
Such rifles will not be used by conventional units, but they will be really useful for special forces fighters or scouts, Colonel Alexander Perendzhiev, associate professor at Plekhanov Russian Economic University, told Izvestia.
- The weight of the weapons and ammunition they take with them is important to them," he explained. - A light rifle will allow them to carry more ammunition, explosives or equipment. On missions that require a lot of time and a lot of walking, this is important. The lighter the rifle, the less fatigue. All these qualities in the end allow the fighter, all other things being equal, to save energy, and this increases the survivability of the fighter and the entire unit.
The versatility of the new rifle is also important - it is automatic, which means that it will be good not only for long-range sniper shooting, but also for medium and short-range combat, the expert said.
- Special units and scouts in the conditions of modern warfare should be ready for any surprises," he reminded. - The same scouts have to conduct combat reconnaissance and sniper shooting. In such conditions, the versatility of the new rifle is a big plus. It is suitable for both cases of small arms combat.
The emergence of new types of weapons is certainly an important trend, the expert also noted.
- It develops our arms industry," Alexander Perendzhiev said. - After the combat operations are over, it will be necessary to compare the effectiveness of different shooting systems and draw conclusions. This experience will come in handy in the future when developing and manufacturing new assault rifles and automatic rifles.
Replacement for "Stechkin" and "Makarov".
Now Russia is actively developing new small arms. Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that in the near future Lebedev's modular pistol (MPL) will come to all law enforcement agencies and to the armament of pilots of the Russian Air Force.
MPL is a new combat model of compact small arms developed by Kalashnikov Concern. It is designed for the use of 9x19 mm cartridges, including high-power ones. The novelty will gradually replace the legendary Stechkin pistol (APS).
It was first shown at the IDEX-2021 international arms exhibition in the UAE.
The new weapon, unlike its predecessors, is equipped with strips for mounting flashlights and laser designators, interchangeable grip pads, and a magazine with an indication of the number of rounds.
The work of Izhevsk gunsmiths was highly appreciated. In November 2022, the Russian President awarded Dmitry Lebedev, a leading design engineer of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, who developed a whole line of pistols, with the Order of Military Merit. It includes pistols PL-14, PL-15, PL-15K, PLK and MPL.
Designer Dmitry Lebedev earlier told Izvestia that the novelty is already actively used in the military special operation zone. According to him, there are still few of them directly in the trenches. Mostly it is at the instructors, that is, those who first receive the new weapon. He also said that now the MPL pistol is often used as a reward pistol.
