Former history teacher Yamandu Orsi became the new president of Uruguay. This was reported by Bloomberg on Monday, November 25.
Orsi, a candidate from the left-wing opposition, won the election in the second round with 49.8% of votes. His vice president will be Carolina Cosse.
"I am going to be a president who creates a more integrated society and a country where no one is ever left behind economically, socially and politically," the agency quoted the politician as saying.
Yamandu Orsi is a former history teacher. He served as mayor of the department of Canelones (2015-2024) and enjoyed the support of the former president of the Republic, José Mujica.
The inauguration will take place on March 1, 2025.
Earlier this year in South America, presidential elections were held in Venezuela. They were won by Nicolas Maduro. It was noted that the vote was attended by 59% of the population.
