Independent candidate Calin Georgescu, who is a supporter of Romania's alliance with Russia, is leading in the first round of the presidential election. This became known on November 25 from the results of the processing of ballots by the Central Election Commission of the country, cited by the Libertatea newspaper.

According to the processing of 98.7% of votes, Georgescu gains 22.65% of votes, his rival, Prime Minister of Romania, head of the Social Democratic Party Marcel Ciolacu - 19.46%. The third place is occupied by the supporter of anti-Russian policy, the leader of the "Union for the Salvation of Romania" Elena Lasconi with 18.93% of votes.

Earlier, on November 24, Marcel Ciolacu was leading in the elections with 25% of votes, followed immediately by Lasconi with 18%, and the third place is occupied by independent candidate Georgescu with 16%.

On October 6, Romania's Supreme Court excluded far-right politician Diana Shoshoake from the list of presidential candidates for the upcoming elections without giving a reason. Politicians from different political circles, in turn, pointed out that this decision represents an unprecedented threat to legal values.
