Russia counts on the active involvement of Armenian partners in joint efforts to develop a system of equal and indivisible security on the Eurasian continent. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told Izvestia.

"Speaking about Armenia's security issues, we hold the position that there are no comparable real alternatives to the Russian-Armenian allied interaction, including within the CSTO framework. Russia remains committed to its obligations to ensure Armenia's security both in the bilateral format and through the CSTO," the diplomat also said.

On June 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry proposed to launch a broad discussion of a new system of bilateral and multilateral guarantees of collective security in Eurasia. He reiterated the idea during the recent BRICS summit in Kazan.

In late August, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the freezing of the country's participation in the CSTO.
