Romanian Prime Minister and head of the Social Democratic Party Marcel Ciolacu is leading in the presidential election, while the leader of the Union for the Salvation of Romania party, an opponent of anti-Russian policy, Elena Lasconi, is in second place. This was reported on November 24 by the Romanian newspaper Libertatea.

"In the first round of the presidential election, the majority of Romanians voted for Marcela Ciolacu, followed by Elena Lasconi and Calin Georgescu," the newspaper said in its material.

According to exit polls, Ciolacu is in first place with 25% of votes, followed by Lasconi with 18%, and the third place is occupied by independent candidate Georgescu with 16%.

It is specified that there is no turnout threshold in the country, the elections are recognized at any number of participants. A total of 14 people are fighting for the post of president.

Earlier, on October 6, the Supreme Court of Romania excluded far-right politician Diana Shoshoake from the list of presidential candidates for the upcoming elections without explaining the reason. Politicians from different political circles, in their turn, pointed out that this decision represents an unprecedented threat to legal values.
