One of the key problems of modern cinematography is what happens between the finished movie and its distribution. This was stated by director and actor Emir Kusturica in a conversation with Izvestia on November 24.

"A movie can now be defined as an attraction, as people will still go to the movies for entertainment. But now you can just watch a movie at home. And everything that happens in between the finished movie and its distribution is actually dangerous for filmmaking," he said.

Kusturica noted that the mass viewing of the finished movie now can launch not only "a big pendulum of screenings and sales," but also watching the movie at home. According to the director, it is people's memory of great films that gives them life, even though they may be difficult for modern viewers to understand and categorize.

Kusturica said the key to the development of Russian cinema is to stop trying to imitate Hollywood. It is the search for what truly is a "Russian movie" that will help the industry in the country.

Earlier, on November 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Serbian actor and director Emir Kusturicaon his 70th birthday, noting his active public position. The President wished him health, inspiration and success.

November 13, Kusturica predicted the film based on "Crime and Punishment" the status of his best work. According to the filmmaker, Dostoevsky is still relevant because "everything has changed so much now." Kusturica is going to demonstrate the writer's philosophy through the prism of modern life.
