It became known about the capture by the Russian military of a British mercenary on the Kursk direction

A mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from the UK has been captured by the Russian military in the Kursk region. This was reported by the Izvestiya source on November 24.

"A mercenary from Britain has been captured on the Kursk direction," the source said.

A video, presumably with the interrogation of the military man is currently circulating on the Net. In it, he says that he served in the British Armed Forces (AF) in the 22nd regiment of communications from 2019 to 2023. After he was sacked from his job, he applied to join the AFU due to financial and family issues.

Earlier, on November 18, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia opened a criminal case against a citizen of Georgia Mikhail Baturin on suspicion in absentia of committing a terrorist act and mercenarism. It is noted that the defendant together with other representatives of mercenary groups in September 2024 illegally crossed the Russian border in Kursk region, using automatic and large-caliber weapons, explosives and military equipment.

Earlier, on November 6, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) sentenced in absentia a 39-year-old mercenary from the United States, Troy Offenbecker, to 14 years in prison for participation in the armed conflict on the side of the Ukrainian army. He was found guilty under part 3 of Article 359 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6. The operation to destroy the AFU continues. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
