The expert told about preparing a country house for winter

Alexandra Chikhrinova, an expert from VseInstrumenty.ru, shared with Izvestia on November 25 recommendations on how to prepare a dacha for the winter season, as well as what should be checked and repaired first.

According to her, it is important to pay attention to thermal insulation: it is necessary to seal small gaps and cracks with the help of sealants, and large holes are better to foam.

It is also worth checking the work of the heating system. Chikhrinova emphasized that before the winter period it is important to clean the chimney.

When planning winter trips to the dacha, it is recommended to make sure that the street lighting is in good working order and place a shovel in a convenient place to clear the way to the house. The expert also recommended installing a video surveillance and security system to quickly respond to possible emergencies.

According to Chikhrinova, if the dacha will not be used in the winter, it is better to turn off the electricity supply to avoid a short circuit or fire, but it is worth making sure that there are no devices that require constant power, such as security systems.

"If you plan to visit the dacha in winter, you can put the heating into anti-freeze mode with a minimum temperature. In this case, installing video surveillance or using a smart home will help to remotely monitor the condition of your home. This solution will provide peace of mind at minimal cost," she added.

When choosing between a winter and summer home, it is important to consider the climatic conditions of the region, the specialist said. Winter homes are usually better insulated and prepared for harsh conditions, while summer homes may require additional insulation.
