Merkel says there is no need to return to politics

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Nov. 24 that she does not feel the need to return to politics.
"I was chancellor for 16 years and I don't feel the need to return [to politics]," she said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais.
According to her, there always comes a time when tasks are passed on to successors. The ex-chancellor indicated that to interfere in the current political situation will no longer.
Earlier, on November 20, it became known that Merkel in her memoirs called Russian President Vladimir Putin "a man who was always on guard" with a remarkable sense of self-righteousness.
Angela Merkel served as Germany's Federal Chancellor from November 22, 2005 to December 8, 2021. The last meeting between Putin and Merkel took place in August 2021. Merkel paid a working visit to Russia as part of her "farewell tour".
In June 2023, Merkel was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit. The award was presented by Bavarian Prime Minister and chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU) party Markus Söder, noting that she led the country through a path of severe crises.
