A giant octopus has appeared in the Moscow Zoo


A giant octopus - the largest mollusk of the cephalopod class - has appeared in the Moscow Zoo for the first time in 10 years. This is stated in the message published on the website of the mayor of the capital on November 24.
The octopus arrived at the zoo from the Primorsky Krai, after quarantine it was placed in the pavilion "Exotarium". It is noted that a male specimen was brought to the capital.
"Before its settlement in the pavilion, the aquarium was remodeled: it was strengthened and equipped with strong locks. The thing is that octopuses can open the lid of the aquarium with their dexterous tentacles. Sea water here is not warmer than plus eight degrees - this is the most optimal temperature for northern underwater inhabitants", - stated in the message.
To octopus not bored, zoologists come up with activities for him. For example, hide food in different places in the aquarium, and the mollusk finds it. Together with him in the aquarium live sea stars and mitridiums.
