Putin signed a law on fines for propaganda of childfree people

November 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on fines of up to Br5 million for promoting the ideology of childbearing abandonment (Childfree).

According to the law, the fine for citizens will be from Br50 to Br100 thousand, for officials - from Br100 to Br200 thousand, for legal entities - from Br800 thousand to Br1 million.

If these violations were committed with the use of mass media or the Internet, the fine will be increased from Br100 to Br200 thousand for citizens, from Br200 to Br400 thousand for officials and from Br1 to Br4 million for legal entities.

Fines are also provided for if violations are committed among minors, as well as foreign citizens, and for the latter, in addition to monetary penalties, arrest for up to 15 days and administrative expulsion from the Russian Federation are provided.

It is noted that it is not an offense to disseminate information about monasticism and the monastic way of life, observance of the vow of celibacy (celibacy) and related refusal of childbearing, if it is based on the internal regulations of religious organizations.

The law was approved by the Federation Council on November 20. It is specified that this decision was supported by 162 senators, one opposed the introduction of punishment, there were no abstentions.

Earlier, on November 12, the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings of the law on the prohibition of propaganda of childbirth abandonment on the Internet, media, cinema and advertising.

Before that, in September, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin prioritized raising the birth rate in the state. According to him, the bill on introducing liability for propaganda of the Childfree ideology will facilitate some processes in society.
