NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte held the first meeting with the elected American leader Donald Trump in the state of Florida in the United States. This was reported by the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance on November 23.

During the meeting, Trump and Rutte discussed a number of issues related to global security. In addition, there was a meeting of the Secretary General of the alliance with Congressman Mike Waltz.

"The Secretary General and his team also met with Congressman Mike Waltz and members of the national security team of the President-elect," - stated on the NATO website.

Earlier, on Nov. 22, it was reported that Rutte may visit Trump's residence to discuss peace talks on Ukraine and try to convince the Republican not to give in to Russia. There is also a possibility that Rutte will become Europe's leading representative in discussions with Trump.

Prior to that, on Nov. 14, Trump promised to "work very hard" to end the conflict in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow would wait for proposals in this regard and was ready to consider them. On the same day, Rutte recognized that Kiev was failing and called for continued military aid to Ukraine.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
