- Canada records the first case of infection with a severe strain of smallpox in monkeys

The first case of infection with a severe strain of smallpox of monkeys (mpox syndrome I) was recorded in Canada in the province of Manitoba. This was reported on November 23 in the press service of the provincial government.
"The Manitoba Health Authority for Seniors and Long-Term Care reports the first confirmed case of mpox sladee lb in the province, which is also the first case of mpox sladee I in Canada. This is a travel-related case associated with an ongoing outbreak of mpox slade I in Central and East Africa," the statement said.
The press office added that the infected person was examined and sent home. Now he is in complete isolation. It is specified that the disease is transmitted only through close contact with someone who is already sick.
Earlier, on November 16, it was reported about the first case of infection with mpox (Clade I) in the United States. According to medical professionals, the sick person recently returned from East Africa, where the outbreak of mpox continues.
Before that, on October 30, it became known about the first case of detection of a new strain of mpox in the UK. This was reported by the British Public Health Agency (UKHSA).
Monkeypox is a rare viral disease, potentially dangerous for people with weakened immunity. The infection is accompanied by fever, intoxication, enlargement of lymph nodes and subsequent spread of the rash: first in the form of spots that transform into vesicles, after opening form ulcers, after their healing - crusts, and when they fall off - scars. In mild cases, the disease usually goes away on its own and lasts from 14 to 21 days.
