U.S. says attempts to hinder Russia-China ties
The U.S. administration has made attempts to interrupt Russia's contacts with China and prevent the development of their relationship. This was announced by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell on November 22 during a speech at a seminar of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS, included in the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) whose activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation).
"I'm not sure we could have prevented, thwarted, or derailed this growing alliance, but we tried, and ultimately China and Russia chose this joint path that will affect global politics, which is only now manifesting itself," Campbell said.
He also noted that regardless of U.S. attempts to influence Russia-China relations , Moscow and Beijing have maintained momentum and continue "forward momentum" in development and interaction. Campbell specified that he expects the development of these relations to continue.
Earlier, on November 19, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the margins of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rio de Janeiro said that strategic relations between Russia and China are at an unprecedented level of development.
Before that, on November 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the relationship between Russia and China is at the highest point in recent history. He emphasized that this is indicated by the trade turnover between the two states: the Russian Federation is fourth in the list of China's leading trade and economic partners.
