The town of Kupyansk in Kharkiv Region still remains the most tense point on the map of military operations. This was stated by military expert Andriy Marochko on November 23.

"If we are talking about Kupyansk, it continues to remain the most tense point on the map of military operations in the zone of responsibility of the Luhansk People's Republic. There are indeed counter battles going on there," he told TASS.

Marochko noted that fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to strike the territories over which they have lost control "just to destroy." The military expert pointed to the low effectiveness of such attacks against the AFU fighters, but the shelling severely damages civilian infrastructure. He suggested that the AFU may be trying to slow down the advance of Russian troops in this way.

"Also now additional forces and means have been transferred to the Kucherovka area, which should cut off our troops and prevent them from connecting, because there are preconditions for our troops to level the defense line between Petropavlovka and Kupyansk. And the enemy is doing everything possible to prevent us from accomplishing this task," he added.

Earlier, on November 19, Marochko reported about the increase of the strike group of the RF Armed Forces on the outskirts of Kupyansk. He also emphasized that full-fledged battles with systematic squeezing of the AFU from the defensive lines had begun. According to him, the interposition space on some parts of the front is up to 10 meters, the intensity of fire is very high.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
