- Medvedev finds it unlikely that U.S. sanctions against Russia will be quickly lifted under Trump

US President-elect Donald Trump is unlikely to immediately lift all sanctions against Russia after taking office, as they are beneficial to Washington. This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev on November 22.
"I believe that it is unlikely that the president-elect who took office will immediately cancel these sanctions. Especially since he actually insisted on a number of sanctions during the well-known period," he said in an interview with Al Arabiya TV channel.
Among such sanctions, Medvedev singled out the restriction of Russian gas supplies to Europe.
"In a certain sense, the termination of sanctions is not in the interests of a number of sectors of the American economy," the politician added.
However, he said, the lifting of sanctions is necessary to "restore normal economic cooperation."
Earlier, on November 10, U.S. Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that anti-Russian sanctions have not deprived Russia of the ability to conduct special operations.
On the same day, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg said that Donald Trump should start restoring relations with Russia with negotiations rather than sanctions. According to Kellogg, the best strategy for restoring dialog between Washington and Moscow will be the tactic of "face-to-face meetings."
Earlier, on November 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the volume of Western anti-Russian sanctions is unparalleled in history, but they have not dealt Russia "a crushing blow from which it will not be able to recover." He emphasized that in fact the Russian Federation is needed by the world, and any decisions either in Washington or Brussels cannot affect this.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
