Moldavia says attempts to resume money transfers with Russia

The Moldovan government is trying to resume money transfers from Russia. This was stated by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean on November 22.
"The government is looking for opportunities for our citizens who are in Russia to send money to Moldova. And vice versa, those who live in Moldova could transfer money to Russia," he said on the air of Exclusiv TV.
Recean also blamed the USA, which imposed sanctions, for the impossibility of money transfers between the countries.
"Here they say that we have banned money transfers from Russia. It was not the government that stopped them, these companies were subjected to international sanctions, including the US," the prime minister emphasized.
According to him, this hit hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens. He added that migrant workers in Russia annually send about $1 billion to their relatives in Moldova, which supports the republic's economy.
Earlier, on November 21, Recean said that it is important for Moldova to restore relations with Russia after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, they are "very tense" now.
Before that, on November 20, former president and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists Igor Dodon emphasized that the strategic partnership between Moldova and Russia should be renewed and sanctions should be lifted.
Relations between Russia and Moldova began to deteriorate after Maya Sandu won the presidential election in the republic in 2020. In 2022, Moldova joined sanctions against Russia and dozens of diplomats from Chisinau were expelled. In April this year, Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi said that relations between Chisinau and Moscow were at their lowest level in the history of modern Moldova.
