Military engineers of the "North" group of troops are restoring bridges and crossings destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) militants as part of the task to ensure the safety of Russian troops and civilians, sappers are inspecting infrastructure facilities for explosive objects, and demining roads, paving the way for assault units in the border area of the Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on November 23.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian militants during their retreat leave mines, stretching rods and other traps that are difficult to detect. The sappers with the help of special equipment conducted a reconnaissance, during which they found anti-tank mines. After the mines are disarmed with the help of an overhead charge, and the site becomes safe for the movement of Russian equipment.

It is reported that the engineer-sapper battalion of the "North" group of troops performs tasks ranging from demining and destruction of unexploded enemy explosive objects to the creation of fortifications, water treatment and power supply. Also, in addition to building fortifications, military engineers neutralize enemy minefields, restore roads, crossings, etc.

"We conducted reconnaissance, then we start to carry out the removal of the topsoil, then we continue to bring in sand, GGS, then crushed stone, bute and lay out the highway. Also, this road will not only be for the use of the military, but also for the use of local residents, as there has not been a road here since the Soviet Union. This is the only road that we are making," said an officer of the engineering troops of the "North" group of troops with the call sign Ham and added that the road is also being made to provide transportation of personnel, food and, if necessary, evacuation of the wounded and sick.

Earlier, on November 21, in the Kursk border area sappers destroyed an AFU mine dropped at night on the road in Glushkovsky district of Kursk region from a hexacopter "Baba Yaga". At the same time, sappers have difficulties in clearing such ammunition because specialists with weapons and wearing body armor cannot approach such a mine. The mine is destroyed on the spot with a superimposed charge.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
