- Air defense units of the "South" group of forces destroyed an AFU hexacopter over the DNR

Air defense units of the South group of troops have destroyed a Ukrainian Baba Yaga hexacopter in the skies above the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on November 23.
It is noted that mobile anti-aircraft calculations of the separate anti-aircraft missile division (OZRD) of the Guards Army of the Southern grouping of troops are on round-the-clock duty and monitor the sky in the Donetsk direction of the special military operation.
Monitoring the sky is a priority task, as the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are attacking the Russian Armed Forces military with drones. Usually such attacks take place at night, as drones are too vulnerable and visible during the day.
"In the daytime we go out on UAVs, 'wings'... Different things get caught. At night they fly "Baba Yaga" and Vampire. They scout artillery positions, "Grads", rocket launchers... UAVs fly every 15 minutes. In some places, every five minutes. They're flying around, looking for the military. And when they can't find the military, they start hitting civilians, buses and cars," said the commander of the car with the call sign Tim.
The AFU hexacopter of the Baba Yaga type, which the unit destroyed over the DNR, is a heavy strike drone that is used as a night bomber to drop large munitions. Drones of this type are not susceptible to electronic warfare (REB), so they are shot down with weapons equipped with thermal imaging.
"During the day we go out on the boom, and at night, if they transmit on the radio station that in such and such a square flies, then mobile groups of two people. We listen, it's transmitted: somewhere near. We go out and stand, listen, we also use thermal imager", - added the commander of the machine Tim.
The Defense Ministry noted that on the account of mobile UAV combat teams of the 23rd OZRD more than a dozen destroyed heavy drones of the AFU.
Earlier, on November 19, the Defense Ministry reported that Russian FPV drones hit AFU armored vehicles in the Kursk region. The footage shows how the drones detected the object and then destroyed it. After the strike, clouds of smoke were observed in the air.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
