Health Canada reports largest measles outbreak in nine years


The largest measles outbreak in nine years was registered in Canada. This became known on November 22 from the document published on the website of the Ministry of Health of the country.
"In Canada there is an increase in the incidence of measles compared to 2023. For the 45th week of 2024, 30 new cases of measles were registered," - stated in the message.
It is specified that one person died after infection, and in six regions of the country there was an outbreak - in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan.
Before that, in 2015, the Ministry of Health of Canada registered 113 people.
Earlier in September, Rospotrebnadzor told Izvestia that single cases of measles were registered in Russia for seven months of 2024. At the same time, the situation has stabilized in almost all subjects of the Russian Federation, there is a decrease in the incidence of the disease. Between January and July, according to Rospotrebnadzor, 2.8 million people were vaccinated against measles, of whom more than 2.2 million were children.
