Six tourists died in the tourist town of Vang Vieng in Laos after drinking tainted alcoholic beverages while on vacation. Business Insider (BI) reported on November 22.

"An American, two Danes, two Australians and a Briton died after drinking tainted liquor," the publication said.

According to the material, local authorities in Laos are investigating the incident. By now it has become clear that the drinks contained methanol, adds "Gazeta.Ru".

Earlier, November 11, it was reported about poisoning in Kamchatka 12-year-old schoolgirl as a result of drinking a bottle of absinthe. The girl was hospitalized in the intensive care unit with severe alcohol poisoning.

Director of the Center for Research of Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets (CIFRRA) Vadim Drobiz told on October 25 how to protect oneself from buying counterfeit alcoholic beverages in Russia. According to the expert, there are no counterfeits in legal retail since 2017, after the introduction of the Unified State Automated Information System (EGAIS). He noted that it is impossible to buy alcohol from the hands or on the Internet - there are 90% fakes there, it is a prohibited sales channel.
