A psychologist spoke about the impact of criticism on the development of depression

In China, a man suffered from depression and insomnia for more than 30 years after a supervisor unfairly reprimanded him. This incident led to the development of Parkinson's disease. Clinical psychologist Daria Salnikova said on Friday, November 22, commenting on this situation that the cause of stress is the way people react to some external stimuli and circumstances.
"Everyone has seen such people who are yelled at, accused, criticized, scolded, humiliated, but they get out and calmly go on. And here the man has so screwed himself up, put himself into depression, which was the cause of stress," she explained in a conversation with Radio 1.
According to the expert, to get rid of such reactions, you need to change your attitude to people in general.
"To change the type of thinking, to change your thoughts on the situation is quite difficult, but it is necessary to do it to keep your mental health," - said the psychologist.
Salnikova added that stress and depression occur because illusions do not converge with reality and the consciousness rests as if on invalid things - those that a person has invented for himself.
"In fact, in this situation, it is important to work with your false cognitive maps and tell yourself that the boss can yell, and you can be angry or not angry at him," the expert said.
She emphasized that we need to understand that not everything in the world happens the way we want it to.
"Other people can do anything. But your task is to deal with your feelings and reactions without relying on illusions," the psychologist concluded.
On November 8, psychologist Olga Romaniv told about ways to quickly calm down and regain control over emotions. According to the expert, releasing a wave of irritation or anxiety through physical action, as well as deep breathing techniques are effective methods of calming down, RT reports.
Earlier, on October 21, Darya Yausheva, a clinical psychologist at the SberHealth medical company, told Izvestia that depression can be aggravated by a number of factors. One of the key ones is social isolation, when a person immersed in a depressive state begins to avoid interaction with others. This leads to the formation of a vicious circle of loneliness and helplessness: the more a person distances himself from others, the more he feels cut off from society and support. And each choice towards isolation reinforces this behavior and worsens the emotional state, the expert explained.
