Experts gave tips on storing summer tires and other car accessories

Proper storage of summer tires and car accessories during the winter period is critical for their long-term service and even safety. Improper storage conditions can cause deformation, which will deprive the item of its original properties, noted experts of the SberAuto service. They told Izvestia on Saturday, November 23, how to ensure maximum safety until the next season.

"Tires require the greatest attention: if after a rainy autumn to send them to "hibernate" on the loggia, forgetting about cleaning and drying, due to moisture and temperature fluctuations, they will lose performance characteristics," - said the experts.

According to them, before sending tires to winter storage, it is necessary to thoroughly clean them. In a car wash you can remove stones and other contaminants from them, and then wait for complete drying. Then it's important to check the condition of the tires: tread wear, cracks, cuts will tell you that it's time to change them, not store them. You should also make sure the pressure is correct: it should be in line with the manufacturer's recommendations. Deformed tires will not be able to regain their original shape and will not fit tightly enough to the wheel rims.

There are two proven methods for storing tires, experts said. The first method is storage in a vertical position (for tires without rims). In this case, the main thing is to provide a stable support so that they do not fall, and periodically rotate the tires to avoid deformation. After removing the disks, it is important to clean them thoroughly to remove dust and other contaminants that can cause corrosion and deteriorate the appearance. You should also check the condition of the valves and gaskets. If they are damaged or show signs of wear, it is better to replace them now instead of in the spring, emphasized the service.

The second method - storage in a horizontal position (for tires on disks). In this case, experts recommended putting cardboard between the wheels to prevent them from sticking together. You can also use special covers or bags: they protect from dust, moisture and sunlight. It is important to choose covers made of breathable material that will drain excess moisture - excess moisture makes rubber brittle, accelerates aging and causes rust on disks, experts explained.

"The optimal temperature for storing summer tires ranges from +15 to +25 degrees. It is important to regularly ventilate the room and avoid sharp temperature changes, as they can lead to deformation of tires and reduce their performance. It is better to keep tires away from heat sources and direct sunlight, avoid placing them near chemicals such as gasoline or oils," the service added.

But car accessories, such as summer mats, window shades, rain gauges, car awnings, etc., also require attention. According to experts, it is best to store them in special separate boxes or coffers. Everything should be clean and neatly folded - otherwise in spring the motorist may feel a sharp stale odor and find stains. Devices with batteries like car refrigerators experts advised to store at home or in stably heated rooms.

"Before the onset of cold weather, it is important to pay attention to the contents of the glove compartment, door pockets and trunk: examine whether there are liquids or products left there, important papers that can get damp in winter, cosmetics, wet wipes or aerosols.
