Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavskyy has told Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga about Prague's unwavering support for his country and promised to deliver 500,000 artillery shells to Kiev by the end of the year. This was reported on November 22 by the Czech News Agency (CTK).
"The Czech Republic has been supporting Ukraine since the first days <...> and will continue to do so. In particular, the promised delivery of 500,000 artillery shells will be realized by the end of this year. These deliveries will continue next year as well," Lipavsky said at a meeting with Sibiga in Kiev.
The Czech foreign minister recalled that Prague also supported Ukraine 's accession to the European Union and NATO.
Before that, on October 3, the Czech arms concern Czechoslovak Group (CSG) signed an agreement with the enterprise "Ukrainian Armored Equipment" on the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition. The company plans to produce 100 thousand ammunition in 2025 and 300 thousand ammunition in 2026. On the same day, Ukrainian ambassador to Prague Vasyl Zvarich said that Kiev has already received more than a third of the 500 thousand ammunition units that the Czech Republic plans to supply by the end of the year.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin made the decision to conduct the operation because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
